How Jim Henson Touched My Life

It’s hard to imagine how far one man’s imagination can take him, what it can do for him, but more importantly, what it can do for millions of people all over the world. It’s hard but possible, especially since it’s a reality for the man called Jim Henson.

My life would be a lot different without him, his imagination, caring heart, and drive to make the world a better place.

It’s hard to put together words to express my appreciation and gratitude for this man. I’ll do my best though. That’s one of the many things I’ve learned through these creatures called muppets. Try your best, be yourself, treat others with respect, love your world, they said.

I watched Sesame Street practically every day from age 4 to 7. That alone has helped form me into the person I am today. I remember watching Fraggle Rock and seeing how much fun they had and how much they loved each other and their world. I WANTED to be a fraggle and live in Fraggle Rock.

Jim was reported to have started Fraggle Rock to stop war and promote world peace and he thought the best way to do that was to start with children. Millions of kids like me have gotten that message and we have carried beliefs of peace and understanding into our teen and adult lives.

My imagination, mind, and heart was fed off these creatures which were as real as anything to me. The muppets are real to anyone with the ‘spirit’ inside them.

Most importantly, beyond anything else, Jim Henson has given me something to believe in, something to strive for. He has planted the message in my brain that I can make a difference, and I can do it by sharing something I really love with the world
